So Thursday night rolls around and students are conversing about hitting up Plums or Tiff’s, maybe cramming for that test your professor carelessly scheduled for a Friday morning, or, being October, watching some playoff baseball games. Well if you are in the library you might see a group of 30-40 guys meeting in the Leather Room, eating B-Dubs and talking about (if you believe it) how to be a man and live your faith on campus.
Catholic Men’s Leadership was formed 4 years ago by the previous SJV rector, Father William Baer, who had the goal of finding male leaders on campus, specifically athletes, who wanted to pursue their faith, create that presence on their teams, and develop what it means to be a strong Catholic man.
The group is comprised of guys with a wide spectrum of faith levels that have a common goal of striving for manhood and to become Catholic leaders on campus. We discuss the real topics, what we most care about and question in the Church, and why we should be sacrificing ourselves for something bigger and better than us. Catholic Men’s goal is to strengthen men in their faith and support each other in sticking to those values on and off campus.
We do this by creating genuine friendships with the men in our small groups. We pray for one another, we challenge one another, and encouraging these friendships to go beyond the Thursday nights. We create a true brotherhood and strive to be men with values, men with generosity–in essence, men of God.
If you would like to join us for a night (or even just start by playing some basketball with the men of Catholic Men’s Leadership) please contact either John Baumgardner (baum4521@stthomas.edu) or Andrew Kincheloe (kinc1918@stthomas.edu) and we’ll show you what it means to be a Man of God!
