I’m sorry to report that nearly all library systems are experiencing severe technical difficulties today. That’s the brief version.
The long version of this story is that we pay for the services of a company called Proquest. From them we get Summon, GET IT, and literally hundreds of thousands of other pieces of content that make up the modern library. Over the weekend Proquest did an upgrade to its system, which is typical and happens with great regularity. However, atypical is that something went horribly wrong with this upgrade. It’s taken down most of our functionality.
Please be patient as we look to Proquest to solve this rather large problem. Let us know how we can help, but be prepared to hear the answer “just wait it out.” Ugh. And sorry.
The UST Libraries 8th Annual Food for Fines Drive wrapped up end of May with a total donation of 323 lbs.
Since the Library’s first drive in 2009, the UST community has donated more than 4,023 pounds of food.
This year’s donation recipient was the Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul’s food shelf:
“As more and more families use our services, we are encouraged when individuals like you step-up to help meet these increasing needs. Your contribution helps fill basic needs of existence. The food shelf serves more than 2,000 people annually and provides special food distribution during Thanksgiving and Christmas.”

It’s the final noonartsound of the academic year and we look forward to seeing you Tuesday, May 3 at noon!
The art: Shelly Nordtorp-Madson will speak on various romantic periods and will compare and contrast the Victorian period with modern times, WWII, turn of the 20th century, 1970’s, the present.
The sound: Chris Kachian will present love songs – strictly American and from 30’s to 40’s – lots of jazz – and always a surprise or two.

The UST Libraries just added the Collected Works of Thomas Aquinas (Electronic Edition) to our collection. If you can believe it, this title was available on CD-Rom before now. I’m happy to report that, like nearly everything else in the known world, it has been made available on the web for your 24/7 viewing pleasure. And as an added bonus, if you were to require some help in interpreting the works of Thomas Aquinas, we’ve also just added the Oxford Handbook of Aquinas, which is one of 64 titles included the new Oxford Handbooks of Philosophy collection.

Poetry on the Patio at Noon on Tuesday April 26
It’s April and it’s National Poetry Month! Plan to take your break over the lunch hour on the patio of the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library on Tuesday, April 26 at Noon! As soon as the carillon stops singing, we’ll begin the poetry reading and you’ll hear from several of your colleagues across campus, including Linda Baughman, Carol Wilkie, Jessica Gjerde, Kristi Ames, Ciara Parks, retiree and French scholar Mary Lou Wolsey, students Christopher Vance and Jennifer Gish. Hosted by Director of Libraries, Dan Gjelten, this annual event is a favorite among poetry lovers and people who just like to discover what poems are favorites of their co-workers and friends. Summit Singers and Cadenza in the Great Hall, April 28 at 8pm
All are invited to an evening of fun and some really great singing by the very popular St. Thomas student a capella groups Summit Singers and Cadenza! On Thursday, April 28, we will look for you in the Great Hall on the second floor of the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library around 8pm. Save some room after supper that night for some snacks and a little root beer float.
