At the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business, we educate our students in successful business practices, prepare them to make sound decisions, and encourage serious consideration and application of ethical values in decision making. In the state of Minnesota, we are fortunate to have many excellent examples of leaders who exemplify these values for our students. The Shenehon Center for Real Estate at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business has established the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame to honor these individuals who serve as role models of leadership and sound decision making while also working to improve the community and displaying the highest level of ethics in business practices.
In this inaugural year of the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame, we will honor six members of the real estate community who have made a significant impact on the industry. These inductees were nominated by prominent members of the real estate community. Faced with a considerable number of excellent nominations, our selection committee had the challenging task of narrowing down the list to award Tony Bernardi, Lloyd Engelsma, Gerald Rauenhorst, William Reiling, Jim Ryan, and Sam Thorpe Sr. in the inaugural class of the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame. In addition to strong leadership ability, ethical business practices and desire to improve the community, the selection committee looked for accomplishments such as starting and building a business, leading an established business to significantly greater achievements, major transactions and innovative projects.
Collectively, the 2010 Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame inductees have literally changed the landscape of Minnesota. They have been involved in many of the major real estate projects that have taken place in our area. This would include developing or managing properties such as LaSalle Plaza in Minneapolis, The Sheraton Bloomington, Southtown Center in Bloomington, the University of St. Thomas Minneapolis campus, Medtronic Headquarters, Best Buy Headquarters, Midtown Global Market, Cristo Rey High School, and the development of the Edina Country Club area.
The Hall of Fame will be an annual event to honor the best in the real estate industry in Minnesota. The nomination process for next year’s award will begin shortly after the first of the year. The University seeks to have nominees from all areas of real estate. We want to cast a wide net to make sure that all deserving candidates can be considered. Besides people from the commercial side of real estate there are many other areas of real estate to be considered. This would include people who have worked in the areas of; residential real estate, legal, appraisal, title, apartments, property management, corporate real estate, government, the public sector, and finance. All nominees, once nominated, will remain nominated for an additional two years to insure that they receive due consideration. If you would like to nominate someone to be considered for next year’s award please send me an e-mail at email@example.com and I will send you a nomination form.
