Student Blogger: Career Trek to WCCO

Last month the Career Development Center hosted a Career Trek to the WCCO TV studio. There, we toured the sets, offices and got to sit in on the pitch meeting for the 10:00 news. Jamie Tjornehoj, a freshman Communication and Journalism major, was one of the students on the tour, and wanted to share a little about her experience:

If there is one word I would use to describe my experience at WCCO, it would be: insightful. Being able to get a tour of the studio, meeting the managers, and getting a first hand look at how a typical news episode is produced was truly motivating. We even got the opportunity to sit in on a meeting where the producers, writers, anchors, and others discussed what would be added to the show that night.

Overall, the experience helped me to visualize what a path in broadcast journalism would entail, inspiring me to work hard while I am on the route towards this dream. I would definitely recommend joining the Career Development center on one of their events as the day was well put together and very organized.
