Career Scoop Update, General Information

Using Your Spring Break Wisely #USTCareerScoop

Spring break is nearly here! If you have some spare time on your hands  this week or next, here is a list of possible activities to get you ahead with your career planning:

Create or revise your resume.

  • Stop by Resume Cafe TODAY in ASC 308 from 12:45 to 1:30 pm for tips.

Create/revise/finish your LinkedIn profile. Join the #HireTommies group to learn about job openings and the Alumni Seeking Knowledge (ASK) group to connect with UST alumni.

Search more than 1100 jobs and internships, upload your resume, create a profile, and save searches so you will be notified when a job is posted that meets your interest.

Check out the employers visiting campus this semester and stop by to learn more.

Get to know people in your area of interest. Face to face networking, job shadowing, and informational interviewing are wonderful opportunities to meet professionals and gather information about jobs and careers from the people who are currently doing what you think you might want to do.

Review common and behavioral interview questions and develop answers. Better yet, schedule a Mock Interview at the Career Development Center to practice or use InterviewStream where you can practice anytime, anywhere.

The Career Development Center is open during spring break, so make an appointment to meet with a Career Counselor about your career goals today!

Declaring a Major
Are you exploring major ideas? There are a few events on campus this month to assist in the process:

Major Things
Do you like Stranger Things? Are you thinking about what majors might be a good fit for you or how to apply your major to a career? Meet with Academic and Career Counselors in a casual drop-in format to discuss your options. On a scale of 1 to 10, this will be an Eleven! Food will be provided (maybe even waffles!). March 13th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in the lobby outside of Murray-Herrick (MHC) 110.

Business Major Field Day
Undecided business major? Students interested in exploring the various majors within business are invited to join business faculty from each of the business concentrations on Tuesday, March 6th from 12:00 to 1:15 pm in McNeely 100 to talk in-depth about various fields of study and career paths. Register by Wednesday, February 28th, as lunch will be provided.

To gain further insight into yourself and compatible career field options or majors, schedule an appointment to meet with a career counselor. You may discuss career assessments, researching careers, and gaining related experience to build your resume. Call 651-962-6761 to schedule a time. We ARE open the week of spring break!

Would You Hire You?
Join us in the ASC create[space] to talk with a career counselor about building a unique and innovative resume. Tuesday, March 6th from 12 to 12:45 pm.
