Career Scoop: How Can the Career Development Center Serve You?

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! As you transition into your new routine with classes, work, and life we want to make you aware of the variety of resources and services available to assist you in your career planning or internship/job search throughout this year.

Career Counselors are available for individual appointments or daily Pop-In sessions (10-15 minute, first-come first served, for quick questions) to assist with:

    • exploring majors and careers
    • applying for on-campus student jobs
    • internship or job search questions
    • resume and cover letter writing
    • interviewing tips
    • creating/updating your LinkedIn profile
    • researching employers and more!

Our career seminars and workshops begin next week. Be sure to check out our website for a list of seminars and career events AND job/internship postings (over 1400 listed today!).

On-Campus Interviewing begins soon for full-time positions and internships. Attend an Orientation to On-Campus Interviewing seminar to sign up for interviews with employers who will be visiting campus from September through November.

International Internships Did you know that students can complete a part-time internship and earn credit as part of a semester study abroad experience, or do a full-time summer internship abroad? Well, you can! There are a variety of programs from our partner providers to choose from. How they might fit into your major degree plan is going to vary based on your class standing, your major, transfer credits, and whether you’re in the current, or new core curriculum.

If you’re interested in learning more about the internship options, there are a few things for you to do:

Career Scoop for the Week of May 27, 2019: First Destinations of 2018 Alumni


The Career Development Center surveys alumni annually to compile a report of post-graduation activities including place of employment, salary range by major, and other data. View the report.

A few quick facts:

  • The total percentage securing their employment prior to graduation or within a month of graduation has increased each year to a current 77.84%.
  • The median salary range for full-time employment was $45,001-$50,000.
  • Overall, 66% of graduates reported having at least one internship while 93.98% reported either employment, graduate school enrollment, and volunteer or military service.

Career Scoop for the Week of May 20, 2019

The Career Development Center has offered several Career Treks this year. The most recent, a tour of WCCO, gave students an amazing opportunity to see how a newsroom operates including a chance to sit in on a news pitch meeting. A student writes about her experience on the blog: Career Trek to WCCO.

We are open throughout the summer for both students and alumni. Get in touch for assistance with career exploration, networking advice, resume and cover letter help, interviewing assistance, or graduate school planning. Next week’s Career Scoop will contain information about the Class of 2018 and where they are working and attending grad school so stay tuned.
