Take a Tommie to Lunch

Do you want to network, learn about industries and careers, internships and more? Why not let a former Tommie take you to lunch?

The Student Alumni Council and the Alumni Association are recruiting undergraduate students for this year’s Take a Tommie to Lunch program. Participants will be matched with an alumnus or alumna in their career fields for a one-time lunch meeting, which can be scheduled anytime during spring semester.

Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 25.

CAREER EXPLORATION FOR SOPHOMORES INTERESTED IN BUSINESS

A 4-part Career Exploration seminar series is being offered for sophomores in business Thursdays, February 24, March 3, March 10AND March 17 (must attend all 4) from 12:00 – 1:00pm

In this 4-part seminar, you will:

  • Begin to learn how you can discern if a career matches your interests and values
  • Complete an interest assessments and understand it’s usefulness
  • Learn what services the Career Development Center offers for students
  • Learn more about the 13 different concentrations in the Opus College of Business
  • Have the opportunity to be linked with a mentor and to have your resume reviewed

RESUME EXTRAVAGANZA FEB 10th!

Hear a panel of employers talk about what they look for and what they think makes a resume stand out to them. Bring your questions and your resume on Thursday, February 10th at 11:45 AM in the OEC Auditorium!

At the event, students can sign up for an individual resume review with panelists and career staff immediately following the panel discussion, first-come, first-served.

JOB FAIR SUCCESS TACTICS

One avenue to use when seeking an employment is to attend a Job or Internship Fair. Presenting yourself successfully at a Fair involves knowing how to assertively introduce yourself and qualifications. After attending this seminar you will have prepared an “elevator introduction” and know how to ask employers for a more in-depth interview time.  There are several dates to choose from in February.

You will hear a short presentation on how to present yourself in a professional manner which will be helpful at the Job/Internship Fair as well as with other networking opportunities. Announcing a new student organization, the Undergraduate Business Council

Calling all business majors!  The Opus College of Business Undergraduate Program would like to announce a new leadership opportunity and student organization for all business majors, the Undergraduate Business Council.  A great chance to serve as a voice for all business students and as a face of the Opus College of Business.

The Undergraduate Business Council will connect students, faculty, and administrators while building relationships, leaders, and opportunities.  The purpose of the Undergraduate Business Council is to create an avenue for students to express insight, ideas, and concerns to the administration of the Opus College of Business, while providing the administration a committee of students to consult.  Members of the Undergraduate Business Council will provide a voice for all business students, serve as a face of the Opus College of Business, and act as liaisons between administration and students.  The Undergraduate Business Council is dedicated to the continued improvement of the Opus College of Business.

Eligible members must be declared, or officially intended business majors with a minimum UST GPA of 2.75.  Students must be in good standing with the University of St. Thomas and the Opus College of Business.  Eligible members must be enrolled full-time and have at least two semesters of classes remaining.  Seniors graduating in December 2011 are eligible.
