Travelers’ Insurance is looking for summer interns and candidates for its Insurance Operations Leadership Development Program (IOLDP) who are majoring in a variety of business fields. The Leadership Development Programs at Travelers are a great opportunity for new professionals with high leadership potential to explore different areas of the company as the programs are set up on a rotational basis, ranging in length from 6 to 18 months. The programs run anywhere from 2 to 5 years in length, depending on the program. Participants receive hands-on business experience, technical and professional development, enterprise networking opportunities and senior leadership mentoring.

The goal of the IOLDP is to attract and develop individuals with diverse backgrounds and prepare them for leadership positions in Operations. Program participants’ business skills and competencies will include a strong technical foundation in business and technology. The program also requires and builds upon a high level of communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership abilities.

J-Term 2010 Study Abroad courses still available!!!

Attention Business Students:
Have you thought about getting out of the cold Minnesota winter in the month of January. Consider taking a course abroad. There are MANY J-Term courses abroad available for this January. Many of them will cover requirements that you need. Click on this link to view all of the J-Term course options abroad and the availability of each course. The application deadline is OCTOBER 2nd! Many of the available J-Term courses abroad cover core requirements – like THEO 300. Here are some examples:

Alumni – Student Mentoring Program!

The Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Council are currently looking for students to participate in the 2009-2010 Alumni-Student Mentoring Program. We have lots of business alumni who are eager to meet you! Once matched, alumni and students will be in contact about once a month throughout the course of the academic year.

Pairs will attend a kick-off session to meet and learn all the details of the program. There are three choices of kick-off sessions to attend:
Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m., St. Paul campus
Monday, October 19, 6 p.m., St. Paul campus
Tuesday, October 20, noon, Minneapolis campus

Ron Fowler Business Concept Competition

The Schulze School of Entrepreneurship at St. Thomas’ Opus College of Business announces the first Fowler Business Concept Challenge, with a $10,000 scholarship for the winners.

Focused on energizing the entrepreneurial spirit of UST students across campuses and colleges, the competition will challenge students to develop a business concept that has the potential to become a viable, high-growth business. Teams that submit the winning business competition in each of two divisions (undergraduate and graduate) will receive $10,000 scholarships.

The Fowler Business Concept Competition will be held next month. It is open to all UST students registered for the fall 2009 semester, including undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Students will compete in teams of at least two but no more than five, registered in Undergraduate or Graduate divisions. Undergraduate division teams must comprise all undergraduate students. Teams registering in the Graduate division must have at least one currently registered UST graduate student (master’s or doctoral level) on the team. Other team members may be currently registered UST undergraduate students.

Information sessions about the competition are scheduled at 5 p.m. today, Sept. 23, in Room 152, Terrence Murphy Hall; 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Koch Commons Fireside Room; or 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Room 355, Terrence Murphy Hall. Initial submissions are due Oct. 15. Final competition and winner selection will be held Oct. 30.
