Snow Day!!

You know what they say-enjoy the snow days in high school because once you get to college, they never happen.

This may hold true for other institutions of higher education, for not for St. Thomas. The snow day, an endangered species of college life, made a showing on Monday, February 21, 2011, and a marvelous day was had by all.

Flashback to the eve of the snow day: Sunday, February 20th, around 7 P.M.

Scene: At the Pit Stop getting some evening smoothies and ice cream in order to sugar up for a few hours of homework. We are standing in the line when three of our friends walk in, looking very excited. One of them says that they think classes got cancelled for tomorrow but we only have about a 2% hope that he’s telling the truth because we’ve been speculating all day. All of the sudden, everyone looks excited and somebody starts woo-hooing. Our friend calls the weather line and with a triumphant fist pump, the celebration begins!!

Five minutes after I found out, I got on Facebook and somewhere around 20 of my friends were joyously proclaiming the snow day via status updates. We could hear people yelling and celebrating and after that announcement, all homework came to an end. People went outside and had snowball fights, ran around like little kids-everything a good snow day should entail but better because it was on St. Thomas’ beautiful campus.

On the actual snow day we all slept in and went to the caf for breakfast-thank goodness that was open! The best part about college snow days (besides everything) is that all your friends are already there, so you’ve got everything you could ever want! We spent the day lounging around watching movies and occasionally doing some homework, and even ventured outside to dig a car out of the snow on Summit. It was such a fun day! On Monday night we got back to business and did homework for real, looking forward to our four day week.

This is kind of hard to see but we had almost 15 people in one dorm room at one point. Pretty dang impressive! And so much fun!

The snow day had not been seen here at St. Thomas since March of 2007, and though we don’t know when she will rear her lovely head again, we cherish her memory. Have a great week, everyone, and remember: go Tommies!

p.s. Our men’s basketball team just won the MIAC Championship again! It’s always a great time to be a Tommie!XX again! It’s always a good time to be a Tommie!
