Finals Feed

Sandwiches for all

Sandwiches for all

Today was “study Thursday” this was the first year St. Thomas had a study Thursday. We always have one day of studying before finals and it traditionally has been “study Monday”. This year due to the change in our final schedules we are actually having the first day of finals tomorrow on the 16th! It has been a tradition for as long as I have been here at St. Thomas that St. Thomas Activities and Recreation ( STAR) and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) sponsor a finals feed on the study day. We always have warm apple cider, cookies some free give aways and of course sandwiches!!

Just a few Cold Cuts

Just a few cold cuts like 80 feet?

It is always great to do this one last event for the semester. It is pretty easy we just have to set up the tables and cut the sub. Hundreds of students came by this evening to refuel eat some food and head back to the library. The week before finals is always a stressful one and we all seem to have our diets fail. This is always a nice event to see a ton of your friends and classmates and make sure at least they eat one good meal today. It was a bit nostalgic for me and for many other students. This will be our last “finals feed” at the grill in Murray Herrick. Next “finals feed” will be in the new ANDERSON STUDENT CENTER! Woop Woop!

Look at all those Sammies!

Look at all those Sammies!

It has been a crazy few weeks we have been prepping for final tests, papers and presentations. The executive board members on USG have also been trying to go through and clean out our offices and to pack for the big move to the Anderson Student Center. It is so exciting to think in just a few short weeks we will all be in the Anderson Student Center! Stay tuned for pictures from the new office and the new student center in January.

Cookies on Cookies!

Cookies on Cookies!

Of Course no late night meal is complete without a little dessert. Nothing like a sub sandwich, warm apple cider and a warm cookie to make studying in the library for eight hours more enjoyable. I hope that everyone has a Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Happy New year!! Three more days and then it is Christmas Vacation! I cant wait. Hopefully we will have a white Christmas. One can only hope!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

GO TOMMIE FOOTBALL

GO TOMMIE FOOTBALL

If you haven’t noticed yet but winter is in full swing in St. Paul. The walk from the Anderson Parking Garage to class seems to take less time now as everyone is walking briskly to get out of the cold. It is getting harder and harder to wake up and get out of bed as the temperature seems to drop. Fall is by far may favorite season but the snow is pretty. Winter on Campus!  It is hard to get excited about Christmas without some snow.

Winter Storm Last year
Winter Storm Last year

With only one more week until finals it seems like everyone is in the Library getting ready for finals. It is going to be a mad dash until Christmas break. There is a buzz around campus with finals and clubs putting on their final events for the semester. There are Christmas parties, study parties and even a PULSE dance club show tonight. Here is a video of some Flash mob promotions that have happened on campus this week. PULSE SHOW TONIGHT 12-9-11 ARRC 7pm There was so much energy on campus. On top of all this excitement the Tommie Basketball teams are off and doing great this season and the Football team is in the Semifinals of the DIII national Championship. Tommie Nation GO Tommie Football It is the last weekend before finals and our Football team is en route to Wisconsin to face UW- Whitewater in football.

It is a great time to be a Tommie. Hope everyone is staying warm. It is going to be a crazy few days before Christmas break, but that is what makes being a college student such a fun time, all of this activity going on around you. It is stressful now but I know I am going to miss all this when I graduate in May.  Studying for finals, getting ready for Christmas break and getting ready for J- Term, it is hard to stay focused. Good luck with finals everyone. Good luck to the Football team this weekend! Only 12 more days until break! It can not come soon enough!

Christmas Cheer

In the words of Buddy the Elf  ” The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

Orcestra Hall Tonight!

Orchestra Hall Tonight!

Tonight a few friends and I attended the annual St. Thomas Christmas Concert which was held at Orchestra Hall. It was fantastic. I have gone to the concert all four years now and I can honestly say that it was one of if not the best show yet! It is weird to be thinking about Christmas now but the next 3 weeks are going to fly by. With finals, projects that are wrapping up, Tommie Sports games and so much more it is going to be a mad sprint until Christmas break. The first week back from Thanksgiving break is always rough but this year seemed to be extremely tough. Thanksgiving is such a teaser, you get a nice break and a taste of break and then you come back and then BAM you have two tests a paper and 4 finals a week away. Phew!

SAC Members at the Christmas Luncheon

SAC Members at the Christmas Luncheon

Luckily amongst all this stress this week, I have been fortunate enough to have a few things to keep me distracted. This week. USG had 5 events including a club leadership dinner where USG and club presidents had a dinner and discussed topics facing students. We had a money management and student budget speaker come on campus we hosted the annual University forum where students can ask the University Administration any question they would like. The executive board of USG also gave our end of the semester report to the administration on Friday! It has been a long week to say the least but it was nice on Friday there was the annual Alumni Christmas Luncheon. It was great food, Fr. Malloy from Notre Dame spoke and the UST Chamber singers were the entertainment.

This week was one of the busiest weeks I have had yet this semester but with all this beautiful snow on the ground and with the Christmas concert tonight I am definitely getting in the Christmas spirit. Focusing on finishing this semester over the next three weeks will be quite challenging, but Christmas break is just around the corner. It is also an exciting time for WISCONSIN sports. The Badgers are smelling Roses on their way to the rose bowl and the Packers are 12-0!  Here is a video from last year that my roommate and a few other UST students actually made it into last year for the Badgers, you can see us at about 1:28 . Badgers are Smelling Roses! Of course it is hard to mention Wisconsin sports without mentioning Mr. Aaron Rodgers!  Only 3 more weeks! Make sure you watch this video and it will put you in the Christmas spirit. Spread some Christmas Cheer!
