APICS 2011 Conference

APICS 2011 Conference

This past weekend my friend and I traveled to Pittsburgh for the weekend. We went to an APICS Conference and Expo. It was a good time. Pittsburgh is such a beautiful city. We were able to attend educational sessions taught by industry leading professionals from Coca- Cola, Motorola, Starbucks, PWC and educators from schools like MIT.  It was great it really got me excited about my major and about my future career in Supply Chain Management.

St. Thomas has a great business school and after having two internships and going to professional conferences like this I know that St.Thomas is doing a good job preparing me for the real world. Being AACSB accredited will also help UST students get jobs and employed by international companies. It was great to hear the two big keynote speakers which were Rocky Bleier Jim Donald the former CEO or Starbucks . They were both inspirational in their own ways and gave me some great insight and perspective into being a leader.

The conference really helped supplement what I am learning in all of my classes. This past week I had to play catch up for missing a few days of homework and library time but it was worth it. Now just a few more stressful weeks until Deer Hunting and Thanksgiving. I can not wait for some turkey and family time. Hope everyone is having a great week!!!

Great time to be a TOMMIE!

Njenga and I in the new Anderson Student Center

Just this past week when the St. Thomas Board of Trustee’s were in town for their meeting the Student Affairs Committee was able to tour the new Anderson Student Center. It was fantastic as you can imagine they were pleased with the building after all of their hard work to plan, envision and help fund this new building on campus it was great to see their reactions as well as the new facility. It is cliche and over used but a picture is truly worth 1000 words. I can still remember the first time I went into the Anderson Athletic and Recreation center it was unbelievable. I definitely had that feeling again when we toured the facility.

This building is going to be great and really put St. Thomas on the map. I am very excited for the space and all the opportunities students will have to use the building. The Anderson Student center will be LEED Certified which is great for St. Thomas and their commitment to sustainability. The space is just so amazing. The pictures just can not give you the context of the space and the ”wow” factor that exists. My fellow student Njenga and I were fortunate enough as student liaisons to the Board of Trustee’s to take a tour of the building. Just a few short more months and it will be open. The Anderson Student Center will open up on January 17th! In the mean time take a look at some of these pictures. I can’t wait.

HOMECOMING

Ashley and I Announcing the Homecoming Parade!!

Ashley and I Announcing the Homecoming Parade!!

Wow last weekend was homecoming already. This senior year is flying by, between work, school work, club involvemnent, concerts and many other things I can not beleive that we are already in week 7 of classes! With fall break right around the corner this year is flying by. I am having a great time but I finally know what they meant by how fast my four years at St. Thomas would go. What a better way to start the begining of the end of my college career with HOMECOMING 2011!

Homecoming is fun it started in the morning with the parade, then you have taste of saints and then of course the homecoming football game. Then at night students can go to the homecoming dance and then the USG sponsored Late Night Breakfast in the cafeteria from midnight until 2. The parade was fun this year we were able to have clubs and organizations build and create motorized floats to advertise their club or organization. Then there is Taste of Saints which is where we change lower quad into a festival type atmosphere. There is food and games and all sorts of fun things to do for students and alumni to participate in prior to the football game.

Seeing all the purple on campus was great. It was great to mingle with students and alumni alike. I unfortunately was not able to go to the game or the dance this year because I had to celebrate my parents 30th Wedding Anniversary back home in Milwaukee. But the morning of homecoming was a blast!! It is sad to think that this is my last homecoming as an Undergraduate student but I can not wait to come back to homecoming as an Alumni!! For all those of you coming on Campus this week or weekend make sure to check out how far the Anderson Student center has come. It opens in JANUARY2012!!!!!

Tommie Johnnie #Winning

Tommies win the "Holy Grail"

Tommies win the "Holy Grail"

Tommie Johnnie weekend seems like a long time ago but it was only last week that the UST Tommie’s defeated the Johnnies in Football. The Tommies kept their winning streak up by defeating Augsburg this past weekend. The excitement that was built up on Tommie Johnnie weekend continued this week.  The excitement that I blogged about last time was definitely in the stands the past two Saturday’s.  Tommies Win! Tommies 63 Johnnie’s 7!

The Tommie Johnnie game was great to be a part of. The campus really comes to life during that game every year. I would not have dare worn red to the game but after the game I of course put on my Badger red and white. The Nebraska Badger game was also a week ago and attached is a clip of the student section getting crazy. It was a great day to be a Tommie but it was also a great day to be a Wisconsin Sports fan.  LET’s GO RED. GO Badgers    Badgers win, Brewers Win and Packers win.

UST VS. SJU HOLY GRAIL TROPHY

UST VS. SJU HOLY GRAIL TROPHY

Last year the Student Government groups from St. John’s and St. Thomas purchased this trophy, “the holy grail”. It is the trophy that the winning team gets to take home after they win the Tommie Johnnie Game every year. It is a nice tradition we wanted to start up again! It is like the AX in the Badger Gopher Game every year. I am proud to say that it is back in St. Paul for another year at UST! It has been a great few weekends. Homecoming and Taste of Saints is this weekend and campus again will be a blast. It is hard to concentrate on all my homework on other activities with all these events on the weekends. I need two weekends, or just longer weekends. It should be lovely weather on Saturday for homecoming. Come check out all the festivities on campus this weekend!
