If that was not enough excitement for one weekend that Saturday was also St. Thomas day where Alumni and students celebrate St. Thomas and award the Tommie of the Year as well as the distinguished alumni award and other alumni awards. It is a day filled with activities that culminate in a dinner in the evening.

Tommie of the Year Dan Carr! Congrats Dan!
Daniel Carr was named the 2011 Tommie of the Year. I can not think of another individual that deserved this honormore than he did. He is a great friend a leader on and off the field. He has a strong faithand is just an all around person you want to be associated with. Congrats again Dan.

Nestle Headquarters Glendale CA
Hey Everyone! If you have been wondering what I have been up to this past month or so that I haven’t bloged let me fill you in on whats been going on. Get ready for this: I have had track practice every weekday, a Track meet almost every weekend, I reviewed over 100 Club Budget and Funding requests, had two tests, a paper, I was out in California for a few days doing a job interview, attended the Mn Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair and other homework as well as had to find some time to have some fun and sleep. So Phew I have been busy but all that hard work and long hours in the library have begun to pay off.
Last week while most of MN was covered in snow, I was out in sunny, Glendale California at Nestle USA . I made it to the final round interviews and was invited to come out to California for two days and interview with some of the employees at their headquarters. It was a great experience. Not only did they arrange for me to fly out there but they put me up in the Hilton and made the stressful process of interviewing quite enjoyable. It was great I got to meet a lot of the professionals at Nestle as well as some amazing students from across the United States.

Me at Nestle USA Headquarters CA
65 degrees and sunny sure was more enjoyable than the 20 degree and snowy weather that I left behind me in St. Paul. I had two interviews prior to getting the call that I would be invited out to CA. It was an intense interview process but I felt like I was prepared for it. St. Thomas has done a great job of making me very competitive in the job market. I was competing with about 20 other students all from large Division 1 schools and was able to go toe to toe with all of the other candidates with my knowledge base and all the tools I have collected in my 3 years here at St. Thomas. Coming from an AACSB accredited business school also gave me a competitive advantage.

Nestle Products
Nestle is a fantastic company it takes care of its employees, it has a great corporate financial structure and it employs an ethical and sustainable business model as well. Their mission statement and St. Thomas Opus College of Business statement are both similar and that definitely played a part in why I felt so comfortable at Nestle. My professors here at St Thomas have done a great job educating me with what I need academically but also enough real world applications to preform in today’s business world. Nestle did offer me a position at the end of the interview process. I am very excited. It has been one amazing first month of second semester. I am ready for outdoor track season to start, spring to be here and for all this snow to go away. Stay tuned for more about the lives of UST Students!
