“Rake-A-Differnce”

Tommie came out to clean up the Neighborhood!

Tommie came out to clean up the Neighborhood!

St. Thomas has so many opportunites to get internships, study abroad meet new people and ofcourse do service. One of the most unique opportunities to serve is when the Student Alumni Council or SAC does their fall community clean up. Sac memebers and many other UST students from the various differnt clubs come out on a sunday afternoon and rake and clean up yards of the elderly in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. It is a ton of fun.

St. Thomas has over 135 differnt clubs and organizations ranging from the Ski club to Knights of Columbus to Chemistry club and everything in between. To be a member in good standing with any club each member must complete two hours of service a semester. During community clean up clubs can sign up together and go as a club and rake a yard. It is a great way to build commrodore within the club as well as do service for all of the UST neighbors. SAC sponsors this event and helps identify and cordinate which neighbors need us to come and clean up for them. It is a very rewarding expierence and the past two years I have done this I have gotten a cookie two after we were done with the yards:)
SUPER SAC MEMBERS GETTING READY TO RAKE

SUPER SAC MEMBERS GETTING READY TO RAKE

It is hard to believe that just a week ago we were outside raking yards. Last Tuesday I was even wearing shorts and Sperry’s. Now for most of us we have come to the realization that winter is upon us. It is not just the lack of color on the trees or the fact that its pitch black outside at 6, but it may have something to do with the O 7 inches of snow we got on Saturday. YIKES! Its ok. I love the snow, snowman, eggnog, christmas music and of course my favorite christmas movie ELF. Don’t worry I already watched it twice since it snowed:) Hope everyone stays warm. Just one more week until THANKSGIVING!!!! YUM

Typical Saturday morning Fun, Playing in the Jump Jump

Typical Saturday morning Fun, Playing in the Jump Jump

One of my favorite events that happens every year is St. Thomas Homecoming! The day starts off with a homecoming parade that comes down Summit Avenue then there is Taste of Saints, football game. homecoming dance and then late night breakfast. It is a marathon of a day. Taste of Saints is put on by the Student Alumni Council in-conjunction with other student groups on campus and the Alumni Association. It is a great day. It is like a carnival in the middle of the upper quad. It is awesome there is food, fun, a beer garden for those alumni that come back from the game, this year there was even a jump jump race thing. It is a great day to be a Tommie !!!

Proud Alumni !

Proud Alumni !

There were alumni from many different classes. It was a great day where current students could mingle with alumni and their families. It was also a big football game for UST. Our football team was undefeated as was Bethel’s, it was a huge game, but of course the Tommies prevailed and won. It was a great time to see all the alumni come back on campus and show their pride and for us current students to get a glimpse into what UST is all about. There were even some young perspective students that came out for the event.

It was a great day to be a tommie. There was food fun and football sounds like a perfect fall afternoon. It is one of my favorite traditions here at St. Thomas. The dance and the late night breakfast which is sponsored by the student government were also a bunch of fun. It was a fun day. I can’t wait for next year’s homecoming festivities!
