Flynn… Isn’t that a building?
~St. Thomas prides it self of it’s Catholic Identity as well as the service that UST students participate in, out in the community, locally, nationally and internationally. The students here at St. Thomas do countless hours of service through clubs and organizations such as VISION and VIA. All student clubs require their members to do service every semester but many student’s volunteer a lot more than the minimum requirement. There are so many options to volunteer here through St. Thomas and other organizations it can be mind boggling.

Trustee Ann Winblad took the USG officers as her guests to the event.
Here at UST we do a lot of service but we also take time to honor and show respect for others that volunteer and have dedicated their entire life to the service of others. One such individual is Archbishop Flynn, and one such group that embodies the essence of service and the dignity of every human being is the Little Sisters of the Poor.
This past week the USG Executive board and a few entrepreneurship students were invited by St. Thomas Board of Trustee’s member and proud St. Thomas Alumnus Ann Winblad to attend a special Gala in honor of Archbishiop Flynn. It was a beautiful dinner and presentation at the Crowne Plaza downtown St. Paul.

St. Thomas inspires their students by saying “Challenge yourself, Change our World.”It is a great motto and one that I believe St. Thomas prepares its students to be able to live by, through our curriculum and service opportunities. We learn by doing and having great examples to look up to. Archbishop Flynn is one of those rare role models to look up to. He is a perfect example of a philanthropist and person who takes great joy and pride in serving others. He has served as Shepard for the community for over 50 years He has dedicated his whole life to Christ and to every individual. I was able to speak with him at the Gala and at the Anderson Athletic Center Dedication Ceremony. He is a great man and someone I hope to emulate in my life. So the next time you are on campus and see Flynn Residence Hall. Think of Archbishop Flynn and his lifetime of service.
