Business ethics is becoming more and more of a hot topic in today’s world, not just on Wall Street but in all levels of the business world. St. Thomas is on the fore front of making sure that all of the graduates from the Opus College of Business are highly ethical and competent business leaders. They are doing a great job with the curriculum as well as with the extra activities they provide to supplement our classroom learning experiences.
One of those opportunities happened this past week when UST students got a chance to see a sneak preview of the new movie Wall Street; Money Never Sleeps. It was a great movie. Before the movie we all met in Minneapolis for a dialogue with St. Thomas professors as well as with John Taft, CEO RBC Wealth Managment. It was a great opportunity to hear what he had to say about the current financial world and a great honor for St. Thomas to have him come and speak about his experience and his take on ethical behavior in the financial field today.
It was a great movie and it was a great dialogue about how business ethics is more important now than ever. The movie was very fitting for what is happening and has happened in the past few years. St. Thomas Opus College of Business has a mission statement that echoes their feelings on educating students to not only be good, competent business professionals but also ethical ones. The business school is going out into the business world right now finding out what we need to know in order to be successful in our careers while also educating their students (like me) what we are going to need most in our first jobs out of college. Thus far it looks like with the help of my professors and in my classes, we will be working hard together to make sure the mission statement becomes a reality!
Consistent with the Catholic intellectual tradition of the University of St. Thomas, the Opus College of Business educates students and working professionals to become effective, ethical business leaders and to be constructive contributors to society.
