Freshman Freshman…
Hey Everybody.
I hope that everyone’s summer has gotten off to a great start. I know that mine has. I have worked a ton but its been good to be home and see all my old high school stories and swap stories from college and other things. It has also been crazy to see my friends and siblings graduate from high school. Over the past few weeks I have attended two graduation ceremonies and numerous graduation parties. It has been a lot of fun. It was crazy thinking that I graduated just two short years ago. Its mind boggling to think about how much I have grown up and changed over the past two years at St. Thomas.

Hey not to get on a soap box but incoming freshman cherish this summer at home. With your family friends and everything. You may feel that after graduation you can not wait to get out on your own and out of the house. But you will be surprised how fast you miss some of the comforts of home after a few months in the dorms. Take time to really build some lasting memories with your high school friends and enjoy it! Then get ready for college. come in with an open mind. Not just about social things but about everything. Allow yourself to change. You should be exhausted after your first few weeks of school at St. Thomas. There will be BBQ’s in the quad. Free tshirt give aways and activity fairs and tons of new people to meet and connect with. Live it up!!!! Talk with everyone on your floor and get to know them, it will make the rest of the year more fun and easier. Ask people where they are going and things they want to do or join. Find out and go with them to the different meetings, STAR and USG giveaways and many other things.
Freshman year was amazing for me. Well I did a lot of growing up from learning that red, yellow and white do not wash well together to learning that I can not pull 4 all nighters in one week. Think back to your freshman year in high school and how timid shy, confused and unsure you were. You may have known a few people but you wanted to meet and make new friends. That is exactly the same feelings you will go through your first year at St. Thomas. So dont worry. EVERYONE is in the same boat. Be yourself and outgoing. Think about it. the class you just graduated with you didn’t know all of them when you all started as freshman. And now as graduating seniors some of those people you didnt know 4 years ago now feel like family and are your best friends. That will happen as well in college. Think about it when you came in as a freshman in high school you were probably maybe just going through puberty, couldn’t drive, couldn’t vote, and now look at you. College you will grow 100 x times as much as you did in high school you will develop friends that will last a lifetime. Who knows maybe your best man or made of honor at your wedding , you will meet in your orientation group at St. Thomas. Who knows. So many possibilities ahead for you as the UST incoming class of 2014
