BEST CITY IN THE MIDWEST

In the words of Lupe Fiasco, “I’m from the city in the Midwest best city in the whole wide wide world” I know that he is talking about his hometown of Chicago but when this song came out I secertly knew he meant Milwaukee, which is my hometown. But I know beleive that he is talking about Minneapolis St. Paul.

LUPE

This past weekend a few of my friends and I went to go see the Lupe Fiasco Concert. It was an amazing show. It was a very intimate show only about 2000 people in the crowd. He put on a pretty good show. There are so many bands and different groups that come to the cities, it is ridiculous. For instance Bands and groups like John Mayer, Darius Rucker, Dave Matthews Band, OAR, Hollywood undead, Eric Church, Brad Paisley have all come through or are coming through in the near future to the twin cities. With all those bands along with all of the local attractions. The twin cities are definitely one of the best cities in whole wide wide wide WORLD!

For those of you who don’t listen to a lot of Lupe Fiasco, you should sometime, or just read the lyrics. Lupe is an amazing artist lyrically as well as through his performances. He is very socially aware of whats going on and writes about it. He can also be very inspiring as an artist. So in the words of Lupe ~ “If you are what you say you are Then have no fear If you are what you say you are  A superstar ”

SPRING CLEANING

The sun is out, the grass is green, there are people running around the track, playing Frisbee, playing baseball IT IS SPRING TIME!!

There are over 126 Differnt Clubs and Orgs to join ranging from Campus Ministry, Ski Club, Ultimate Frisbee club, Accounting club and many other clubs. One club I am very involved with is the UST Fishing Club. We are a brand new club this year and already have 37 club members. We are going on our first fishing outing this weekend we are all pretty excited.

One thing you have to do in every club to be in good standing is to preform two hours of service every semester. It is pretty fun and easy. It is a great way to do an event with your club, help the community and live out the Mission of St. Thomas. SAC or Student Alumni Council another club on campus every fall and spring do community clean up days. They identify neighbors in the community surrounding campus that need help with their yard work due to age or illness and then send students there to rake leaves in the fall and do some good old fashioned spring cleaning in the spring. It is a great way for St. Thomas to give back to the community. SAC does a great job as far as organizing all the different clubs and orgs that sign up to serve and giving them all a few houses to go clean up. It is a lot of fun and a great way to help others out.

UST CLUB FISHING CLEAN UP CREW

This is the Club Fishing Crew doing work for a nice lady. She had so many leaves and other debris in her yard that if it wasn’t for us would have never gotten out of there. We took about 2 hours or so to clean it and came away with half a tree and about 35 bags of leaves!! St. Thomas cleaned over 40 homes in the neighborhood. Great Job everyone!

STUDENTS TODAY LEADERS FOREVER

So True Story 45 Strangers boarded a coach bus together on the Friday of Spring Break, while their friends were going to Flordia, Vegas and many other sunny typical spring break destinations. They got on the bus and were told we are going to be driving on the bus for hours at a time, sleeping on gym floors and waking up early doing service projects, and then at night after all the that was done they would be talking about their feelings in small groups. I know that I for one would not have gone on the trip.

BUS 2 YEAH BUDDY

The funny thing is there was a large group of UST students that did do just that and “had to go through” with that. What most students didn’t know and what they will all take away with them is, the positive impact they have had on the world around them. Everyone jokes about sleeping on a gym floor but everyone remembers the smiles on the peoples faces after we were done with a project. We went to 6 cities. We cleared brush, had a dance partay with a bunch of senior citizens, scrubed a boys and Girls club from top to bottom,  cleaned a moldy warehouse, pulled a car and several refrigerators out of a river and played basketball with a bunch of kids at a Boys and girls club.
