Andreas Segovia fans will be especially happy around the MRC’s Tannenbaum this year. The four volume Segovia Master class in Spain series is under the tree in addition to a biography and the re-release of El Prado, a film from 1967 which features this father of classical guitar and other Spanish amigas, pianist Alicia de Larrocha and soprano Victoria de los Angeles.
Opera followers will have oodles of footage to watch over break. The three volume Great stars of opera are stuffed into MRC stockings on the fireplace along with a DVD of tenors of the belcanto era and two operas from the standard repertory, Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Verdi’s Il Trovatore, which Minnesota Opera mounted earlier this season.
DVD’s on the venerable music/talent education master Suzuki, contemporary composer Henze, a history of the nearly century old Salzburg Festival and miscellaneous orchestral performances with famous soloists from yesteryear complete the goodies left by St. Nicholas in our shoes.
