Bolcom and Segovia and more Jazz, oh my!

The Music Resource Center’s Thanksgiving Holiday was bookended with new arrivals!

Through an ACTC grant, we added quite a few CD recordings of orchestral works and songs by American composer William Bolcom. Guitarists will want to checkout the new Andreas Segovia 4-CD set, the 3 CD’s of Dowland lute songs and music, and UST’s very own Dr. Kachian on Falls Flyer, a CD of music for guitar and oboe. In other notable additions, the MRC acquired the 1958 Sofia recital given by famous pianist Sviatoslav Richter, a couple CD’s of music from Bosnia and the sacred choral music of Fux, Carissimi and Tavener.
Eight more DVD’s of the Jazz Icons performance series arrived today: Brubeck, Coltrane, Ellington, Gordon, Mingus, Montgomery, Vaughan, and a bonus disc of previously unseen performances of four of these greats. We’re expecting eight more of these DVD’s to arrive. Stay tuned to see when they’ll be here!
Other new DVD’s on MRC shelves are two opera standards by the two (and unrelated) musical Strauss’, two Tchaikovsky ballets, and a biography about American minimalist, John Adams. Students in conducting class will also want to look at the DVD on creative rehearsal techniques for choirs and Herbert von Karajan rehearsing and performing symphonies by Schumann and Beethoven.
