Last week I was in Washington, D.C. and Maryland attending three different law fairs and then visiting St. John’s College. Tuesday started at the University of Maryland, where I took the metro and then a shuttle bus to the campus. I was able to meet with students and prelaw advisors from the University of Maryland and neighboring schools like Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. Mr. Egan from Mount St. Mary’s was kind enough to take a few pictures while I was talking to some of his students. Katherine and Gina – Marie had great questions for me! I hope to see their applications next year.

A Week of Planes, Trains and Rental Cars
1/3 of the way there…
It dawned on me the other day, as Cari “borrowed” candy from Grace’s office on my behalf, and I realized… I’m 1/3 of the way done. All I can say is how impressive it is that I’ve learned so much in so little time. After one year of law school, I am certified to appear in court, I advocate for clients, and I write official legal documents (all under the supervision of a practicing attorney of course). (more…)
Student Orgs: Worth the Time?
This year I have been working to juggle coursework, research for professors, and a leadership position, which has proven to be somewhat difficult. I am the co-president of Lex Vitae (“Law of Life”) and the exec board and I have been working to line up speakers and events for the upcoming year that promote conversation about controversial “life” issues such as abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia. As much as it is somewhat overwhelming to be fully involved in student groups on top of coursework, I highly recommend that law students do so. (more…)
First Meeting with a Mentor
This past Friday I had my initial meeting with my mentor! It went great! She was very excited about the experiences she had coming up that she would like for me to attend. She told me that she had been a mentor for St. Thomas students since the program started. She told me that a lawyer’s reputation matters, and it is who you know that really matters. It was an overall great first meeting.
In my Professional Responsibility class, we started using clickers last week during class. The clickers are used to answer questions, some of which are old MPRE questions, relating to Professional Responsibility issues. I enjoy using clickers in class for this purpose, because it serves as a mini-review for me.
I am looking forward to this coming week of classes, because Wednesday is my birthday!
DePauw University
On Thursday morning I flew to Indianapolis, IN and drove to DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. I walked to the light rail station in Minneapolis at 5:00 a.m. so I needed my fall jacket, but I arrived to Indianapolis where it was sunny at 80 degrees all day. From the airport it was a short 50 minute drive to Greencastle.

Last Friday I visited Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. I am so glad that I had my camera along with me! The campus was just breathtaking. I couldn’t believe how many amazing sculptures they had throughout their campus. It was like walking through a sculpture garden. (more…)
Second year they work you to death…
I am now two weeks into my 2L year, and am already feeling overwhelmed by the coursework that I have. I sometimes worry that there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done. In fact, because I have been so stressed about my coursework, I decided last weekend to put in a leave of absence notice at my work. I told my manager that at least for the rest of this semester I would not be able to work. I need all the spare time I can get for homework.
On a lighter note, I was able to go to a Twins game last Wednesday!! (more…)
Travel Season Starts
The Fall recruitment season started this week at the University of Kansas Law Fair on Wednesday, September 8th followed by the MINK Law Fair at the Overland Park Convention Center later that same day. I met many impressive potential applicants who were genuinely interested in UST and our unique law school mission and community. (more…)
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
The first week of school is complete and Labor Day weekend is here! The first week of school went slower for me than expected. It is nice to have one week complete, though. I felt tired and worn out all week, not from school, but I think from the summer to school transition. (more…)
