For the 13th year in a row, the Minnesota International Center hosted the World Quest Quiz competition on Friday, November 1, 2013. About 300 people packed into the University of Minnesota’s McNamara Center and 36 teams competed, including General Mills, Target, Medtronic, Ecolab, etc.. All teams were tested on their global knowledge of geography, politics, and current world events. Eight students, Julio Acosta, Nigel Brown, Liseth Bucheli, Nana Kwapong, Pleasant Radford, Maurielle Storms, Lukasz Wlosiak and Gabriela Trejo-Juarez dressed in purple to form the UST MBA team.
The team encountered tough questions like: “How many countries (that are independent commonwealths of the UK) have a union jack as part of their flags?” or “When was the last time a US presidential dinner cancelled?” Luckily, the team’s studying and global knowledge paid off. Out of 36 teams, UST placed 5th (tying with Geodesy Odyssey and Wells Fargo), just 2 points away from third prize. In fact, Liseth won a door prize gift certificate just for participating! After the results were in, many other participants noted and congratulated the UST team’s ranking. What a great way to start a weekend and show team spirit!
