The group meets weekly on Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m., June 6 through June 27.

Schedule an appointment to meet with a career counselor! They can help you map out a plan for your search or discuss things such as resume writing, interviewing skills, or job offer evaluation.

Reminder to All Students

Looking for a job or internship? Start your search early! Some employers will be on campus beginning in Fall 2012 to recruit for Summer 2013 internships or full-time positions. A recent study showed that 56 percent of UST graduates secured employment prior to graduation. Findings also indicated that the longer graduates wait to begin their search, the longer it takes to find employment.

The Career Development Center is open during the summer months—we can help you get that early start. It is a great time to explore options for a college major, begin your search for a fall 2012 internship, or prepare a resume to use for a full-time job search. We offer individual appointments and pop-in hours. Call (651) 962-6761 to set up your appointment or find out about available pop-in hours, or check out our website for more information.

Graduating Seniors

Seniors, as you head into the homestretch of your college experience, ready to graduate, we’d like to remind you that our services are available even when you are no longer a student. Make use of the previous resources if you have not yet secured employment or graduate school for the coming year. Congratulations on graduating!

LinkedIn Challenge Day 15 #USTLIC Step away and LINK!

Alumni Sharing Knowledge

General Information

LinkedIn
<guid

But you should always keep in mind that strong personal connections are best formed in person. There are many things that you can discover in a face-to-face meeting that you do not experience in a Skype call or even a teleconference.
Nothing can compare with face-to-face interaction. Social media such as LinkedIn, however, has made it easier for your first meeting to go smoothly, since you typically discover the other person through their pages and accounts.
LinkedIn is a great way to connect with an individual prior to that first vital meeting. So utilize your LinkedIn wisely, and enjoy forming deeper bonds with the people you meet.

Always remember that Linkedin is not Facebook. You should not post personal photos, nor engage in unprofessional conversations. Remember, no one wants to know what you ate for breakfast, or what you did on Saturday night. They are interested if you are looking for a new position, recently found a new one, or acquired an important competency. Business people are busy, and will disconnect you if you send out too many or too frivolous status updates.

Though you may be able to connect with someone meaningfully through LInkedIn, nothing beats connecting with someone in person. Face-to-face meetings continue to be invaluable in helping you form strong personal connections.

Now step away from the computer. There’s a perception that young people are only comfortable communicating online, so be sure to support your online networking with real human contact. Set up phone calls and attend live events.

Remember that LinkedIn should supplement, not replace, in-person relationship building.

LinkedIn Challenge Day 14 #USTLIC Actively Participate on LinkedIn

Alumni Sharing Knowledge

General Information

LinkedIn
<guid
