St. Thomas students! Looking for a new way to search for jobs? Try out TommieCareers!

TommieCareers? What’s That?

TommieCareers is a new job and internship search site available to St. Thomas students and alumni with jobs posted by employers interested in hiring current and former Tommies. It is fast, easy to use, and ready for your job search needs. Whether you are a senior graduating in just a few months, or a student looking to earn some extra money or gain experience with an internship, this site can help you move in the right direction.

Where to Begin

It is easy to start using TommieCareers; just go to the site and log in using your UST NetID and password. Once on, one of the first things you will find is the profile tab. This tab covers personal and academic information, contact preferences, and allows documents such as resumes, cover letters, and writing samples to be uploaded for future use. From the initial log in on the TommieCareers site, your profile is created without any additional set-up, and areas such as name, major, and expected graduation date are already filled in for you.

Looking for a Job

Since much of your profile is already filled out for you, you can jump right in and start looking for a job or internship. Through the Career Development Center’s website, you can search the public postings and start there. However, you’ll find the advanced search only on TommieCareers, with all the same jobs and internships but with enhanced functionality.

The advanced search can be used to search through the listings to whatever degree of specification you want, with features such as keyword, location, and academic major. For example, if you wanted to see what jobs are available for economic majors, you could plug that into the search engine and it would bring up all of the jobs for which employers hire economic majors. It is not only a way to find a job, but a way to really show you what you can do with your major. The advanced search also covers position type, so you can specify by job, internship, seasonal, or volunteer.

If you find a job that you like or an employer that interests you, it is very easy to keep track of them without having to try to remember posting numbers or links. Simply click the “Add to Favorites” button, and it will be saved under the Favorites tab, ready for your next visit.

Ready to Apply?

When you find a job that interests you, the next step is to apply for it! TommieCareers makes the application process quick and easy. All you have to do is click on the “Apply” button on the right sidebar, choose the documents to send to the employer, and click “Submit”! In the event that the employer does not require a cover letter, TommieCareers allows you to send a personal note—complete with a spell-check feature—so that you can stand out even more to the employer by adding a nice, personal touch.

Keep Track of Life!

TommieCareers offers a variety of ways to keep track of all of the career-related events that you might be interested in. First, there is the Events tab, which keeps track of all of the events hosted by the Career Development Center. There is also the My Calendar tab, which, in addition to loading the Career Development Center events, can keep track of job interviews—TommieCareers makes managing your schedule simple.

Try It Out!

TommieCareers is here exclusively for St. Thomas students and alumni. It has many convenient features, such as the advanced search, which is perfect for finding the job you want. Ready try it? Go to TommieCareers.stthomas.edu and log in with your UST NetID and password—it’s that easy! We also welcome current faculty and staff to log in and see the opportunities available to our students and alumni.
